As a little bonus preview, here are some screencaps from the movie. These show the new paralyzer effect as well as the color correction done to the whole movie. For those not familiar with the movie’s previous WIP look, or if you don’t remember, not only does it make the different seasons a little more consistent (as much as is possible), it also drains a little of the color from the movie, making it feel dark, kinda overcast and enhancing the shadows. These aren’t the highest-quality screens, and any lines you may see on the footage are the interlacing I mentioned in the last post, which won’t be apparent in the final version. Enjoy!

Shadows of the Democracy
Unfortunately, Dave, our newest effects man, had a hard drive crash and lost what he was working on for Shadows. However, because of our progress on DE, it really won’t set us back terribly badly overall. We intend to return to the location for one final filming, this time just to get several transitional shots of Sprint, Typhon and just the landscape, as well as possibly re-film a scene for DE there we had shot there before, only in HD this time. Lightsaber rotoscoping is almost done, then Ryan and I can move on to blasters, other effects and finally the color correction (which we are still tweaking for the look we want).
Dark Equilibrium
We recently had a relatively long and very productive green screen studio filming, which focused on just the 4 main characters. We admittedly got tired towards the end of the shoot and also forgot a few small parts, so we’re looking into having myself, Wes, Ryan and Jonathan return for a 2-hour pickup/reshoot. We’re kind of under a new time crunch for filming. Tyler is getting engagement pictures taken sometime in the mid-late summer. For that they want him to have shorter hair, while his current length is what we need for the film to be consistent (we don’t need another hair length debacle like in Shadows). So our goal is to finish everything involving normal Typhon before the end of July. According to my calculations, that means we have 3 filmings left: Read the rest of this entry »
